PHOENIX, AZ, Sept 1, 2005 - Food
for the Hungry, in response to Hurricane Katrina, has already assembled
5,000 care kits which will be transported within the next 24 hours.
The care kits consist of soap, toothpaste,
tooth brush, wash cloths, shampoo, and band aids, in addition to other
supplies that will be purchased on ground in the affected areas.
Food for the Hungry is still accepting donations for the Care Kits and supplies. It is expected that up to 25,000 of these kits will be sent from our partner organization in Coolidge, We are Family, as they are assembled. Also, Food for the Hungry is partnering with other organizations on the ground in the affected areas to help purchase much needed supplies locally.
Food for the Hungry is currently not set-up to accept non-perishable goods or mobilize more volunteers to assemble Care Kits. The best, most effective way for people to respond is to provide cash donations that will go directly to the Care Kits and relief supplies.
